Director of Vietnam’s power load dispatch center suspended pending inspection

State utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on Wednesday suspended Nguyen Duc Ninh, director of the National Load Dispatch Center, to serve an inspection into the power management and supply.

EVN general director Tran Dinh Nhan signed a decision on the suspension, which immediately went into effect.

Ninh took up the post of director of the National Load Dispatch Center on February 24, 2020. He has worked at the center for 23 years.

The state-run National Load Dispatch Center, under EVN, is responsible for safely and continuously supplying power and ensuring the stable operation of the national power system.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade on Saturday last week launched a 30-day inspection into the power management and supply of EVN and relevant agencies between January 1, 2021 and June 1, 2023, as required by the prime minister.

The north of Vietnam has suffered repeated power outages amid the scorching weather.

Residents have sought ways to escape the heatwave while many enterprises have suspended their operations during the blackouts.

The power failure has also hit the tourism sector.

The Minh Chau-Quan Lan tourist area in Van Don District under Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam reported that its customer number has fallen about 35 percent due to frequent blackouts.
