Nha Trang wants to end high-rise hotel construction

The administration of Nha Trang, the capital of the south-central Vietnamese province of Khanh Hoa, likes to temporarily cease granting construction licenses to towering hotels as a way to reduce problems in security and infrastructure.

The idea was first presented in their latest proposal to the administration of Khanh Hoa.

The construction of high-rise hotels in the city has mushroomed to the extent that it adversely affects urban security and the environment, putting greater stress on traffic infrastructure, the Nha Trang administration explained.

It is not clear what the proposal means by ‘environment’ but pundits suggest it refers to the cityscape.

Access to many hotels and apartment blocks is hobbled as they typically sit along alleys, it said.

The building of multi-story hotels will be considered once again when local architecture regulations take effect, the municipal administration added.

But the provincial construction department has yet to issue new regulations, though it was tasked with formulating them in early 2017.
