Officers attacked by local family for measuring karaoke noise in southern Vietnam

The officers were readying their equipments when about five people from the family starting hitting them with bricks

A team of local officials and police officers was attacked by a family while attempting to measure the sound level at a karaoke party in Tien Giang Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.

Nguyen Van Thanh, chairman of the People’s Committee in Binh Nhi Commune, Go Cong Tay District, confirmed on Thursday that competent authorities were looking into the assault that sent there members of the commune’s administration to the hospital.

A group of local police officers and officials was tasked with measuring the noise level emanating from a karaoke party at the house of Huynh Van Ca at around 11:30 am on Wednesday.

The officers were readying their equipment when five people from Ca’s family began using bricks to assault the group.

Following the attack, Le Truong Giang, an official at the Binh Nhi People’s Committee, and two police officers, Sang and Vuong, were admitted to the hospital with several injuries.

Giang suffered serious wounds to his neck, while the other two victims took injuries to their faces and stomachs.

Officers from the Go Cong Tay police department later arrived for back-up, but the residents continued their assault.

The family members were eventually escorted to the police station.

According to initial information, Ca’s family was throwing a birthday party for his granddaughter and the group decided to sing karaoke.

When the noise became too loud, neighbors called local authorities to end the ruckus.

Police are continuing an investigation into the case.

In late February, Nguyen Viet Loc, 59, residing in the north-central province of Ha Tinh, was arrested for killing a man over karaoke noise.

Loc previously asked the victim and his friends to turn down the volume, but the request was ignored.
