Officers investigate suspected transportation of over $1mn in Ho Chi Minh City

Police and customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating the suspected illegal transportation of over US$1 million

Police and customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating the suspected illegal transportation of over US$1 million from the southern Vietnamese city to Thailand.

The customs unit of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed on Friday it had detected some suspicious signs from the luggage of two passengers on Thursday.

The passengers, two Vietnamese nationals aged 46 and 50, were scheduled to board flight VJ803 from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok, Thailand.

Customs officers examined their two suitcases and discovered a large number of papers that look similar to $100 banknotes.

The serial numbers of the suspected bills could not be seen as they had been dyed black.

Officers concluded there were a total of 10,518 suspected banknotes worth more than $1 million.

Further examinations and investigations are being carried out by the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department and the police unit in Tan Binh District.
