A man has been killed and five others injured after the car he was driving slammed into a house in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong in the small hours of Tuesday morning

A man has been killed and five others injured after the car he was driving slammed into a house in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong in the small hours of Tuesday morning.

A Lexus LS 250 carrying two passengers, including the driver Nguyen Ngoc Xuan, crashed into the residence of Nguyen Thi Chinh in Hong Thai Commune, An Duong District, Hai Phong, at around 1:20 am, according to local police officers.

Aside from the driver, who was killed instantly, passenger Dong Van Lai survived the accident.

Five residents who were sleeping inside the house were Chinh, her two sons, Nguyen Trung Vi and Nguyen Van Dai, Dai’s wife, Hang, and their seven-month-old son.

With the exception of Hang, who escaped injury, the other four and Lai were wounded and quickly taken to the Kien An General Hospital.

According to Tang Xuan Khoa, deputy director of the infirmary, Chinh, Vi, and Lai’s conditions have stabilized, while Dai and his infant child suffered only minor scratches, and have been discharged from the hospital.

Local authorities are carrying out an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Excess speed is thought to be a contributing factor.
