Passenger bus with burst tire slams into house in Nha Trang

A long-haul bus crashed into and destroyed a house in Nha Trang, the coastal capital of the south-central Vietnamese province of Khanh Hoa, as one of its tires abruptly went flat, sending the vehicle barreling into the building on Thursday morning.

No one was in the house at the time of the incident that unfolded at around 6:15 am, when the 40-seater bus veered off National Route 1 in the resort city’s Vinh Luong Commune, according to eyewitness accounts.

The bus caused a wall of the building to collapse before ending up overturned, a witness said.

One of the passengers, Le Xuan Thanh, said one of the vehicle’s tires burst after it had run for a short distance from a gas station with its tank filled.

The driver suffered a broken leg and was taken to hospital together with 26 passengers, according to Nguyen Van Dan, director of the transport department in Khanh Hoa Province.

Local police attributed the incident to a flat rear tire that made the bus hurtle out of control.
