The current Ho Chi Minh City is a combination of the old Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
The merger is part of Vietnam's provincial-level unit reorganization that became effective on July 1, lowering the number of provinces and centrally-administered cities to 34 from 63.
The exhibition portrays the city's vibrant identity as a dynamic mega-city of Vietnam.
The event commemorates the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day on September 2 and marks a new chapter in the city's photography scene post-merger.
Doan Hoai Trung, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association, said the exhibition includes 28 photographs from the Binh Duong photography sub-association, focusing on the natural scenery and people of the former Binh Duong Province.

Another 32 photographs come from the Ba Ria-Vung Tau photography sub-association, showcasing landmarks and the daily life in the region, which is now officially part of Ho Chi Minh City.
The final 40 images were selected from the series 'Ho Chi Minh City – 50 Years of Proud Heroic Anthem,' created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and Reunification Day on April 30.
Trung emphasized that the exhibition is more than a visual tribute.
"'Ho Chi Minh City – The City I Love' is an opportunity for people to admire the beauty of the newly expanded city, while also spreading love for the homeland and igniting national pride," he said.

Also on Thursday morning, the association launched two new photography sub-associations: the Binh Duong sub-association with 31 members and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau sub-association with 32 members.
The organization also officially admitted seven new members during the event.
