Earlier on Monday, videos circulating on social media showed children being lifted several meters into the air while holding onto the strings of large kite flutes in Cho Moi Commune, An Giang Province.
The footage showed children grabbing or holding onto kite strings as the kites rose, with one child reportedly being pulled about 10 meters above the ground. The incident raised safety concerns and prompted local authorities to verify what happened.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper on Monday morning, Nguyen Trong Tri, chairman of the Cho Moi People's Committee, said many local residents had flown kites in the fields several months ago after the rice harvest.
Residents are no longer flying kites there, he said.
Regarding the TikTok video showing a person dangling from a kite string high above the ground, Tri said local authorities would direct relevant agencies to verify the incident.
Cho Moi police confirmed that kite flying had taken place at the site. Authorities have since intervened, and the activity has stopped.
However, as the video continues to draw attention online, authorities will identify the account that posted it and consider appropriate action, including requiring the video to be removed.
The video has attracted thousands of shares and comments, with many users expressing concern and disapproval of the stunt.
