Police bust largest drug trafficking point in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province

This is the largest drug trafficking point in Tien Giang that police officers have destroyed so far

Police in Chau Thanh District, located in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, on Tuesday said that they had broken up a place illegally trafficking drugs and arrested at least six people.

Drug-related crime scouts of Chau Thanh District’s police unit caught Nguyen Thanh Yen, 24, living in Tan An City of Long An Province in the Mekong Delta region, possessing a plastic bag containing narcotics at 6:30 pm on Monday.

From the details given by Yen, police officers made an urgent search of the residence of Nguyen Thi Nhieu, 61, in Tan Ly Tay Commune, Chau Thanh District, where they were able to seize 523 plastic bags containing white crystals that are suspected to be methamphetamine, a precision scale, six cellphones, a cash amount of VND31 million (US$1,340), and several related items used for drug distribution, sale, and use.

Police also confiscated one large package and six plastic bags containing white crystals that are suspected to be methamphetamine, one precision scale, some homemade drug and weapon tools in the room of Phan Minh Hung, Nhieu’s 32-year-old son.

Authorities detained Tran Thanh Tien, 32, living in Tan Binh Thanh Commune, Tien Giang Province’s Cho Gao District, Nguyen Ngoc Sang, 29, residing in Tan Ly Tay Commune, Chau Thanh District, and Dao Trung Tin, 22, from Tan Ly Dong Commune, Chau Thanh District at Nhieu’s house.

At the police station, Nhieu admitted to trafficking narcotics and that the white crystals in the aforementioned bags were methamphetamine.

According to Nhieu, she and her son purchased narcotics from Ho Chi Minh City to resell in Tien Giang.

This is the largest drug trafficking point in Tien Giang that police have destroyed so far, according to local police.
