Nha Trang Ward police were completing a case file to handle Nguyen Van My, 67, a local resident, for theft.
According to police, on Friday afternoon, a Nha Trang Ward police team, together with local security forces, was patrolling along Tran Phu coastal road.
At around 2:00 pm, when they reached a park opposite Biet Thu Street in Nha Trang Ward, officers noticed My acting suspiciously and began monitoring him.
About five minutes later, My saw Y.P.H., a 49-year-old Chinese tourist, sitting on a bench with a backpack beside her.
He approached and stole the backpack when she was distracted.
After noticing the theft, the police team raised the alarm and, together with a 38-year-old tourist from Hanoi who was passing by, chased down and apprehended the suspect, recovering the stolen property.
