Police catch suspect stealing from Chinese tourist in Vietnam’s Nha Trang

Police in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam have arrested a suspect who stole a backpack from a Chinese tourist containing a purse with more than 1,250 yuan (US$184.5), over $200, and VND60,000 ($2.3).

Nha Trang Ward police were completing a case file to handle Nguyen Van My, 67, a local resident, for theft.

According to police, on Friday afternoon, a Nha Trang Ward police team, together with local security forces, was patrolling along Tran Phu coastal road.

At around 2:00 pm, when they reached a park opposite Biet Thu Street in Nha Trang Ward, officers noticed My acting suspiciously and began monitoring him.

About five minutes later, My saw Y.P.H., a 49-year-old Chinese tourist, sitting on a bench with a backpack beside her. 

He approached and stole the backpack when she was distracted.

After noticing the theft, the police team raised the alarm and, together with a 38-year-old tourist from Hanoi who was passing by, chased down and apprehended the suspect, recovering the stolen property.
