Investigators believe the hospital raised the price of artificial vitreous equipment during a bid

Police probe Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital for violations in bidding process

The Ministry of Public Security is carrying out an investigation of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital for violations related to the bidding process for artificial vitreous equipment.

A source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed on Thursday that the Ministry of Public Security is probing the infirmary for bidding regulation violations. 

Should suspicions be confirmed, ministry will likely levy heavy penalties on the hospital.

The Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital is believed to have raised the price of artificial vitreous equipment during the bidding process.

Officers began searching the hospital on Wednesday morning to seek out relevant documents and evidence.

The search was supervised by a representative from the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

The investigative team also held meetings with Nguyen Minh Khai, the hospital’s director, as well as with several other individuals and departments.

Dozens of documents were confiscated from Khai’s office and from other relevant departments during the seach.

The search concluded at 1:30 pm the same day when officers left the hospital with Khai.  

Born in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, Khai, 48, became director of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital on September 5, 2017.

Khai is also secretary of the hospital’s Party Committee and was recently re-elected for the 2020-25 tenure.

He previously served as director of Nguyen Trai Hospital and head of the infirmary’s ophthalmology department.
