The provincial police department confirmed on Thursday that the rescued individuals were Lisa, a 19-year-old Dutch national, and Khuong Van Nguyen, a 25-year-old man from north-central Thanh Hoa Province.

At around 1:30 pm on the same day, authorities received an emergency report that the two hikers had become lost and fatigued on Co Ong Mountain, located in Dam Mon Village, Dai Lanh Commune.

They dispatched six rescuers with specialized vehicles to Dam Mon. There, they boarded a local fishing vessel to reach the mountain, situated in a coastal area.

The team located the hikers at approximately 4:55 pm.

Lisa was found in a state of severe exhaustion, suffering abdominal pain and unable to walk, while Nguyen was in a more stable condition.

The rescuers provided food and water for the hikers and helped both descend the mountain.

They were then transported by boat to the mainland for further care.

According to a local man who often helps visitors to Co Ong Mountain, tourists unfamiliar with the complicated terrain there may lose their way and become exhausted, so hiring a qualified guide is essential for their safety, according to news site VnExpress.
