The fire prevention and fighting and rescue police unit in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday saved nine people who were stuck in an elevator in District 5, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The elevator of the building, which is located on Hung Vuong Street in Ward 9, District 5, suddenly broke down and stopped at the second floor when the group of nine were taking it at around 12:45 pm the same day.

As they cried for help, residents of the building tried to forcefully open the elevator door but failed, and resorted to rescuers.

Upon receiving a report on the incident, the fire prevention and fighting and rescue police unit in District 5 sent three trucks and 16 police officers and rescuers to the scene, where they used hydraulic pliers to remove the trapped people.

Five of the nine victims had poor health and were taken to the April 30 Hospital for emergency treatment.

Currently, their health is stable.
