According to the provincial Military Command, the device was identified as an MK81 bomb, a remnant from the war period.

The bomb was uncovered after floodwaters eroded layers of sand and soil, revealing the ordnance within the yard of a house in Khanh Vinh Commune.

Upon discovering the bomb, the homeowner immediately reported it to local authorities.

Following the report, military sappers and other forces were quickly deployed to secure the site and evacuate residents from the danger zone.

The bomb was then transported to the Khanh Hiep training ground in Trung Khanh Vinh Commune, where it was destroyed in a controlled detonation in accordance with technical regulations.

Khanh Hoa, home to the famed beach destination Nha Trang, and several south-central and Central Highlands provinces including Lam Dong, Dak Lak, and Gia Lai endured historic flooding last month that caused severe destruction.

As of November 25, the disaster had killed 22 residents, injured 20 others, destroyed 105 homes, and damaged 909 units in Khanh Hoa, with total losses estimated at VND4.141 trillion (US$158 million).
