2 dead from illegal bike race on airport runway

Seven motorbike racers on Wednesday met a deadly accident when they joined in an illegal race on a runway of the former Phu Quoc airport in Kien Giang southern province. Two died and five are in critical condition.

Local newswire VnExpress reported that the seven young men on four motorbikes were divided into two teams and traveled in opposite directions.

Eyewitnesses said when they reached halfway, a certain racer lost control and collided head-on with his competitor from the other direction, resulting in others crashing their bikes.

The report said two died on the spot from head injuries and five others were seriously injured due to multiple injuries.
