The visit is part of efforts to strengthen the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership, which was established in 2016.

It also promotes mutual understanding, defense cooperation, and maritime security in the region.

India has frequently sent naval ships to visit Da Nang, with the most recent being INS Delhi and INS Satpura in May 2023.

At the welcome event, Da Nang’s Department of External Relations reaffirmed the city’s readiness to serve as a bridge for expanding naval cooperation and training between the two countries, contributing to regional maritime freedom, security, and safety.

All three visiting ships are among the largest in the Indian Navy.

INS Delhi measures 163 meters long, INS Kiltan is 109 meters long and equipped with advanced anti-submarine systems, while fleet tanker INS Shakti spans 175 meters in length.

There is currently a direct flight route between India’s Ahmedabad and Da Nang with a frequency of three flights per week.

In the first half of 2025, Indian visitors accounted for 7.38 percent of Da Nang’s total international arrivals, ranking second among all overseas markets.
