4-day break proposed for Vietnam Culture Day in 2026
Vietnam's Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking feedback on a proposal to create a four-day holiday for the newly established Vietnam Culture Day in 2026 by rescheduling a working day.

The proposed schedule would apply to officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers at state administrative agencies and public service organizations.
The ministry has put forward two holiday options for Vietnam Culture Day, which falls on Tuesday, November 24, 2026.
Under the first option, the holiday would be combined with the preceding weekend by swapping the working day on Monday, November 23 with Saturday, November 28.
If adopted, public sector employees would enjoy a four-day break from Saturday, November 21, to Tuesday, November 24, before making up the working day later that week.
The second option would keep the holiday on November 24 without any workday rescheduling.
The ministry recommended the first option, saying the extended break would create favorable conditions for people to participate in cultural activities and further promote the significance of Vietnam Culture Day.
The ministry noted that private-sector employees would be entitled to a paid day off on November 24 in accordance with the law.
It also encouraged employers to adopt the same holiday schedule for their workers as that proposed for civil servants and public employees while ensuring all statutory rights and benefits are fully guaranteed.
For 2027, when Vietnam Culture Day falls on a Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed observing the holiday on its official date in accordance with Resolution No. 28/2026/QH16, without any workday rescheduling.
Vietnam's National Assembly passed a resolution on the development of Vietnamese culture, which took effect on July 1, 2026.
Under the resolution, November 24 has been designated as Vietnam Culture Day, with employees entitled to a paid day off.
The addition of the new holiday has increased the total number of public holiday days in Vietnam to 12 annually.
Besides Vietnam Culture Day, employees are entitled to paid leave for New Year's Day, the Lunar New Year holiday, Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Reunification Day, International Workers' Day, and National Day.
Foreign nationals working in Vietnam are also entitled to an additional day off for their traditional New Year and another for their country's National Day.
