The incident occurred at the home of 36-year-old Nguyen Quang L. in the Phong Thu Market area of Dien Ban Tay Commune.

Relatives, unable to reach the family around 9:00 am, went to the house and found it locked from the inside.

When rescuers broke in, they discovered a running generator and all eight family members unconscious.

The victims were rushed by local residents and military personnel to nearby hospitals around 11:25 am, with five to Tam Tri Hospital and three to Cam Le Medical Center.

Despite emergency efforts, three people were pronounced dead before arrival, and another died later at Tam Tri Hospital.

The deceased were identified as N.T.T. (75, female), Nguyen Thi Thanh Th. (14, female), N.C.T. (5, male), and N.T.T.X. (19, female), according to commune chairman Vo Nhu Phong.

The four survivors, including L., his wife P.T.T.T., 34, and their daughters aged 11 and 8, remain in intensive care at Da Nang C Hospital and Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children.

Initial medical assessments confirmed that the victims were poisoned by carbon monoxide produced by the generator running in a sealed room while the family used an air conditioner during a power outage caused by flooding.

Authorities are conducting a full investigation and examining the scene.

The Da Nang Department of Health has warned residents never to operate fuel-powered equipment such as generators, charcoal stoves, gas stoves, or idling vehicles in enclosed spaces.

It also advised ensuring proper ventilation and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or shortness of breath occur.
