5 dead in Hanoi house fire
A fire broke out early Saturday at a four-story house in an alley on Kim Hoa Street in Hanoi, killing five people, local authorities said.

The blaze started around 5:30 am at No. 9, Alley 12, Lane 17, Kim Hoa Street, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Ward.
Residents attempted to extinguish the fire but were unable to control it.
Hanoi police dispatched four fire trucks and over 30 firefighters to the scene.

The fire quickly engulfed the entire building, which covers about 25 square meters and is located 300 meters from the main road, complicating rescue efforts due to thick smoke and toxic fumes.
Officials, including Hanoi’s chairman Tran Sy Thanh and director of the Police Department of Fire and Rescue Lieutenant General Nguyen Tuan Anh, arrived to oversee firefighting and rescue operations.

The fire was contained by 6:00 am.
The deceased were identified as N.D.L., born in 1952, H.T.H., born in 1956, N.H.M., born in 1982, D.T.S., born in 1988, and N.M.V., born in 2019.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
Hanoi officials called for improved fire safety measures, including ensuring clear emergency exits and access to firefighting equipment in narrow alleys.
