A lost wallet on a dark Da Nang street could have ruined a Turkish traveler's vacation. Instead, a Ukrainian tourist's prompt decision to contact local police created an unforgettable midnight reunion.

The tourist, identified as Anna, found the wallet containing more than US$3,450 on a street in Ngu Hanh Son Ward at around 12:00 am on Sunday while visiting the central Vietnamese city.

She then took it to the ward police office, asking officers to find the person who had lost it.

After checking the papers inside the wallet, police identified its owner as Hasan Burser, a Turkish national staying at a hotel on Tran Bach Dang Street in the city.

Officers promptly contacted the hotel, informed Burser about the wallet and invited him to the police office to retrieve his belongings, the municipal police said on Monday.

Burser recovered his lost wallet later that night, with his papers inside, along with US$3,300 and VND4 million ($154) in cash, totaling more than $3,450.

He expressed his gratitude to Anna and Ngu Hanh Son ward police officers for promptly helping him recover his lost property.
