In response, authorities have deployed over 4,020 liters of disinfectant to infected areas to sterilize the environment and control outbreaks at culling sites.
The risk of continued ASF outbreaks remains high due to several factors such as a large pig population, small-scale backyard farming accounting for 80 percent of total pig production, and poor compliance with veterinary hygiene standards.
Many local farmers have yet to implement proper biosecurity measures, and old outbreak zones, along with gaps in slaughterhouse supervision, continue to pose a threat as the virus can persist in the environment.
The agriculture department added that financial support for farmers forced to cull sick pigs has not been allocated since 2021, which has hindered disease prevention and control efforts.
For losses incurred during the 2021-22 period, the administration of former Quang Nam Province on June 24 this year approved more than VND90.5 billion (US$3.5 million) in compensation to affected households.
Quang Nam was officially merged into Da Nang from July 1 following a nationwide administrative restructuring drive in which 63 provinces and cities were reduced to 34 and local administrations were divided into provinces/cities and wards/communes.
The city’s financial department has been tasked with distributing the funds after the administrative merger.
As for damages from 2023 to April 30, 2025, the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment has submitted documents requesting additional funds to support livestock owners whose animals were culled because of ASF outbreaks during this period.
