All 36 students of Vietnam’s team participating in the 2025 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) in Bangkok have secured awards, including two diamond medals and nine gold medals.

The event took place from July 25 to 29, attracting 807 contestants from 23 countries and territories, including the United States, China, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Australia, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, and India.

Vietnam’s team, comprising students from elementary, middle, and high schools, achieved two diamond medals, nine golds, seven silvers, 13 bronzes, and five honorable mentions.

The two diamond medals were awarded to Tran Lam Dao, a sixth-grade student at Nguyen Truong To Middle School in Hanoi, and Tran Gia Minh, a seventh-grade student at Ngo Si Lien Middle School in the Vietnamese capital.

Among the nine gold medals, five went to Ha Nam Phong, Vu Huu Lam, Nguyen Hung Minh, Bui Gia Bao, and Nguyen Tuong Minh, all of whom are students at Ngo Si Lien Middle School.

Two additional gold medals were awarded to Vu Tai Khanh and Vu Gia Khanh from Vinschool The Harmony in Hanoi, and the remaining two went to Au Vu Thai Son from Brighton College Vietnam and Pham Minh Quan from Ba Trieu Elementary School, both in the capital.

The seven silver medals and 13 bronze medals, along with the five honorable mentions, were awarded to 25 other students from various elementary, middle, and high schools.

Cai Viet Long, vice-principal of Thuong Thanh Middle School in Hanoi and deputy head of the Vietnamese team, said the exam, which included multiple-choice and essay sections, was praised for its structural, creative, and practical approach.

The questions covered elementary through high school levels, emphasizing not only basic mathematical knowledge but also logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and real-life applications.

The breadth of content, variety of formats, and openness in problem design made the 2025 WMI not only a test of mathematical ability but also a global platform where students could sharpen critical thinking, creativity, and skills in applying mathematics to real-world situations.
