Australian man goes viral after traveling to Vietnam for cosmetic surgery

Australian delivery man Jason Harrigan avoided cameras and was uncomfortable with how he looked for two decades, but now, the 57-year-old from Gold Coast, Queensland has unexpectedly become a social-media sensation thanks to a cosmetic-surgery journey in Vietnam.

According to News.com.au, Harrigan’s videos documenting his procedures began circulating widely on Tuesday, dominating TikTok and other platforms across Australia.

Each clip opens with the now-familiar greeting: “Hello, I’m Jason from Australia.”

In each video, he appeared alongside a different doctor, all confirming their role in helping transform his appearance.

Though the videos promote the clinic where he got a facelift, Jason never mentions the facility’s name.

The unusual setup quickly caught the public’s attention.

Viewers were puzzled that each clip featured a different ‘before’ photo, or wondered why so many doctors appeared to be involved.

This confusion only fueled interest, sending his videos to tens of millions of views.

Why did he select Vietnam?

Despite the mixed reactions, Harrigan insisted he is thrilled with the outcome.

He had struggled with insecurity for years, he said, until stumbling upon the TikTok account of a Vietnamese cosmetic surgeon.

After months of watching, he decided to fly to Vietnam in August.

The deciding factor, he explained, was the cost. A procedure priced at around US$37,000 in Australia costs just $1,500 in Vietnam.

Upon landing in Hanoi, Harrigan received immediate consultations and soon underwent seven hours of surgery.

The procedures included removing nearly 6.5 cm of excess skin on his forehead, removing sagging and puffy skin on his eyelids, and tightening his neck and face.

He recalled that he was asked to film a TikTok video right after surgery.

“Sure why not, no one is going to see me,” he said.

A few days later, people were sending him screenshots asking whether he was really in Vietnam.

During the following week, he visited the clinic multiple times a day for check-ups.

Because different doctors handled different areas of his face, each asked to record a video with him, explaining why he appeared alongside so many specialists and inadvertently triggering online debates.

He emphasized that the surgery was for him, and the change has made him more confident.

In a recent video call, his mother complimented his appearance.

“She said it looked good. It seemed a bit fake at first, but now it looks very natural,” he said.

Online reactions have been lighthearted.

One commenter joked: “From a 40-year-old dad to a 20-year-old YouTuber.”

Harrigan never intended to attract attention, yet the combination of a personal decision and the reach of TikTok has turned a delivery worker into a viral figure across Australia.
