Authorities to clear eateries dangerously set up along cliff edge in Vietnam's Khanh Hoa

The makeshift drink stalls and snack shops have set up tables, chairs and tarpaulins right next to the cliff along Luong Son Pass on Pham Van Dong Street.

The cliff is dozens of meters high, and the area has attracted large numbers of locals and tourists who come to eat, admire the scenery and take photos.

Some visitors have sat right on the edge of the cliff, with rocky outcrops directly below them, while others have deliberately stepped beyond safety barriers to take photos and admire the view.

Young children have also been seen running around near the cliff edge, posing additional safety risks.

The area has previously seen accidents involving visitors while exploring and taking photos, the ward's administration said.

Tran Quang Tuan, 32, a local resident, said the site is popular for its scenic views and cool weather, especially in the afternoon.

He said many people come there to take photos, check in and gather with friends, but warned that visitors should avoid getting too close to the cliff edge because it is unsafe.

The ward authorities said relevant agencies have conducted several operations to remove eateries encroaching on the area and have installed warning signs at some dangerous spots.

However, there are currently no specific penalties for people who stand or sit near the cliff edge to take photos or check in.

Authorities said they have reminded visitors of the potential dangers through warning signs, adding that penalties can be applied to illegal vending and business activities within the road safety corridor.

The ward administration will establish an inter-agency team to inspect and fully clear the makeshift eateries along Luong Son Pass, while stepping up public communication urging locals and tourists not to approach the cliff edge.
