Society

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued an action plan to implement Vietnam’s logistics development strategy for 2025-35, with a vision to 2050, focusing on developing a logistics corridor connecting the Cai Mep–Thi Vai–Can Gio port cluster with Long Thanh International Airport, while reorganizing the warehousing system and establishing modern logistics centers.

-- Authorities found five more sets of remains at the second search site inside Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, bringing the total number of martyrs’ remains recovered at the park so far to 160, according to the Ho Chi Minh City High Command's martyrs' remains recovery team.

-- A leader of the traffic police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, said authorities are continuing to crack down on traffic violations by foreigners and tighten inspections of motorbike rental businesses that rent vehicles to foreigners who are not eligible to rent motorbikes.

-- Under the Vietnamese government’s new decree, employers that pay wages late, fail to pay or underpay contractual wages, or underpay overtime, night-work, or work suspension wages will face fines ranging from VND5 million to VND50 million (US$190.3-1,903), depending on the number of affected employees.

Economy

-- Michael Vu, Boeing’s country director in Vietnam, has been appointed vice-chairman of Vietnamese conglomerate FLC Group, which owns Bamboo Airways, effective August 1, overseeing aviation and airport infrastructure investment.

-- Ho Chi Minh City is now home to more than 14,000 foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises, up 41 percent from 2020, employing more than 1.6 million workers, or over a quarter of the city's total workforce, highlighting the sector's significant concentration of employment and prominent role in the local economy, according to the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City economic census.

-- Philippine importers have informed Vietnamese exporters that the Philippines, Vietnam’s largest rice importer, is tightening inspections of pesticide residues in rice imported from Vietnam, which experts said could present an opportunity for the Vietnamese rice industry to accelerate standardization toward safer and more sustainable production.

-- Nearly a month after police in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, dismantled a transnational diamond smuggling ring, an increasing number of diamond stores in Ho Chi Minh City have closed to avoid scrutiny, while online diamond trading has become increasingly active.

-- The administrations in Quang Tri Province and Hue City in central Vietnam and Vietnam Railways held a workshop on developing the "Hue Ancient Capital – Phong Nha: Journey of Wonders – World Heritage" railway tourism product, with a tourist train service from Hue to Phong Nha expected to begin operations on September 1.
