-- A court in the southern city of Vung Tau on Tuesday sentenced a local woman to 30 months behind bars for forcing a female employee to have centipedes tattooed on her face and bosom as a warning for the latter’s alleged affair with the former’s husband.

-- A car driver, who is allegedly Vietnamese top model Thanh Hang, on Tuesday morning carelessly opened her/his car door, causing serious injuries to a female motorcyclist who crashed into the door.  

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 11 on Tuesday detained  two members of a gang who arranged a fake scene of a road accident to rob a couple who had withdrawn cash from a bank.

-- The Vietnam Communist Youth Union and a business partner on Tuesday launched a campaign to give 6,000 standard protective helmets to residents in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, and Can Tho City.

-- A court in the northern city of Hai Phong on Tuesday sentenced four Chinese nationals to a total of 57 years in prison for using high-tech devices to counterfeit credit cards.

Education:

-- At a meeting on Tuesday, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged the education sector to accelerate the granting of autonomy to state-run universities in order to improve tertiary education quality.

Business:

-- Trucks with a loading capacity of more than 10 metric tons and 20ft or 40ft container trucks are allowed to travel on the 55km-long Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway now.

Politics:

-- Politburo member Le Hong Anh, who is currently visiting China in his role as a Special Envoy of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, met with Wang Jiarui, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference on Tuesday.
