-- Jordan views Vietnam as an important partner in Asia and wants to deepen cooperation in areas including agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, the defense industry, cybersecurity, halal production, and science and technology, Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi said during a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Tuesday.

El Qadi also proposed setting up a free trade zone for Vietnamese goods in Jordan and forming joint ventures, and met separately the same day with Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and State President Luong Cuong.

Society

-- Vietnam has approved a 2026–30 strategy, with a vision to 2045, to promote the country’s image overseas, aiming to strengthen international awareness and trust, support diplomacy, investment and tourism, and lift Vietnam into the top three in ASEAN and top 30 globally for soft power by 2045.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Health is seeking public feedback on draft legal amendments that would ban smoking indoors, in public places, and at educational institutions, allowing it only in clearly designated areas to strengthen public health protection.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Forty-six people in Ho Chi Minh City were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning after a year-end company party, Ba Ria General Hospital said late on Tuesday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City police said on Tuesday they had detained eight suspects after dismantling a ring accused of producing counterfeit RON 95 gasoline by blending legitimate fuel with solvents and colorants in Chanh Hung and Long Truong Wards.

-- Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio said it will hold a large-scale spring festival from February 7 to February 28, with spring-themed decorations and a hot-air balloon program, as part of efforts to develop a Lunar New Year tourism product and promote Can Gio as an emerging destination south of Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Khanh Hoa Province’s Center for Cultural Heritage Conservation said on Tuesday it had sought approval to suspend a nighttime art program at the Ponagar Tower complex after selling about 400 tickets for 16 shows with revenue of roughly VND12 million (US$426), far below performance contract costs of about VND136 million ($5,230), excluding other expenses.

-- Nine cruise ships have called at ports in Khanh Hoa Province since early 2026, bringing thousands of international visitors ashore and marking a brisk start to the year for the province’s cruise tourism sector.
