Ho Chi Minh City

-- A fire broke out early on Thursday in an alley off To Ky Street in Ho Chi Minh City’s Dong Hung Thuan Ward, killing a woman and her two children, local authorities said.

-- The branch 2 of Gia Dinh People’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City treated 217 foreign patients in January, up 88.7 percent from December 2025, the city’s health department director Tang Chi Thuong said on Wednesday.

Economy

-- The Vietnamese government has ordered local authorities to accelerate the launch of a gold trading exchange before February 10 and to prepare intervention measures to stabilize the market if necessary.

-- Lam Dong Province on Wednesday approved revised investment plans for Vietnam National Coal–Mineral Industries Group to expand two alumina projects, with total investment of VND59.855 trillion (US$2.3 billion) and new capacity of 2.4 million tonnes a year, slated to begin operations in 2030.
