-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam on Monday held separate phone talks with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
-- General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, received Senior Lieutenant General Khamliang Outhakaysone, Minister of National Defense of Laos, in Hanoi on Monday.
-- Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith agreed to strongly promote economic connectivity between Vietnam and Laos, including strategic projects such as the Hanoi-Vientiane expressway, a petroleum reserve facility, and a northern Laos-Vietnam power transmission line, during his meeting with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Authorities in Hanoi said on Monday they are investigating a case of suspected abuse after camera footage revealed a female caregiver repeatedly mistreating a 90-year-old woman confined to a wheelchair.
-- The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City has announced plans to establish 37 free freshwater distribution points to support residents during the 2026 dry season, particularly in areas vulnerable to drought and saltwater intrusion.
-- Hanoi recorded 37 cases of dengue fever, 86 cases of hand-foot-and-mouth disease, 16 cases of measles, and one case of whooping cough during the week of January 16-23, according to the city’s Center for Disease Control.
-- In the first month of 2026, traffic accidents nationwide declined across all three key indicators compared with the same period last year, with 338 fewer accidents (down 18.42 percent), 114 fewer fatalities (down 11.25 percent), and 255 fewer injuries (down 21.93 percent), the National Traffic Safety Committee said on Monday.
