Politics

-- Vietnam regards the U.S. as a strategic partner in the economy and trade fields, but the two nations should continue removing barriers, particularly to trade, investment, and high technology, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said at a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper and a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Hanoi on Wednesday.

-- Vietnam has extended an invitation to the defense ministries of China, Russia, Laos, Cambodia, and Belarus to send military personnel to participate in the Southeast Asian country’s grand parade marking the 80th anniversary celebrations of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

-- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and Polish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski co-chaired a deputy ministerial-level political consultation in Warsaw on Tuesday, discussing recent developments in bilateral cooperation, measures to further advance the traditional friendship and multifaceted partnership, and international and regional issues of shared concern, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Society

-- The Ministry of Health has proposed the government designate May 20 each year as Vietnam’s Organ and Tissue Donation Day. As of the end of May 2025, more than 132,000 Vietnamese people had registered to donate their organs.

-- Many localities in northern Vietnam are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain on Thursday, while hot weather patterns might hit the central region. Besides, the southern region is likely to see scattered showers, according to the national weather center.

-- Ho Chi Minh City is expected to collect VND52.6 trillion (US$2 billion) in land use fees from nine projects with newly approved land prices. Meanwhile, the city’s annual land use revenue in recent years has been below VND20 trillion ($765 million).

-- Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam have discovered a group of children aged from 11 to 14 throwing rocks at vehicles traveling on Van Phong-Nha Trang Expressway.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has announced the ranking of 10 hospitals with the highest quality scores and 10 others with the lowest after conducting quality assessments of hospitals and medical facilities in the city, with Binh Dan Hospital receiving the highest points.

-- A group of local and international investors have proposed developing a hyperscale data center valued at $2 billion in Ho Chi Minh City to support artificial intelligence growth.

-- Thousands of CEO, founders, exhibitors, and startups from Vietnam and multiple nations will participate in InnoEx 2025, Southeast Asia’s leading innovation forum and exhibition, set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City on August 21 and 22.
