Politics

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will lead a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations in Kazan, Russia from June 16 to 18.

Society

-- Northern Vietnam is forecast to experience a widespread spell of heavy rain, with some areas expected to receive more than 250 mm of rainfall, from Sunday evening to Tuesday next week. The downpours could trigger flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, as well as flooding in low-lying and urban areas, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- The Long Thanh International Airport project, which will be Vietnam's largest airport once completed, is still short of nearly 2,000 personnel, mainly skilled technical workers and operators of specialized equipment although the workforce has increased and remained at an average of more than 6,800 direct workers, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam.

-- The Vietnam Food Safety Authority under the Ministry of Health has issued a document to provincial and municipal health departments requesting a review and recall of Novalac powdered milk products over concerns about potential digestive side effects in children.

-- Thirteen investors have registered to build 97,000 rental housing units in Ho Chi Minh City, a welcome development for residents, though the key challenge is ensuring the projects are completed quickly and reach those in need of housing.

Economy

-- Oh Sang Sik, vice-chairman of the Korean Association in Vietnam, said there are currently about 1,200 South Korean restaurants in the former Ho Chi Minh City area, before the merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau, and proposed establishing an association of Korean restaurants in Vietnam.
