-- Phan Van Sau, General Inspector of the Government Inspectorate, will be dismissed from his office by the country’s lawmaking National Assembly, its chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan announced on Wednesday.

-- At least 53 people have been confirmed dead or missing in northern and north-central Vietnam following heavy rains and flood as a result of a tropical cyclone that hit the regions on Tuesday.

-- A private company has submitted to the administration of Ho Chi Minh City a plan to charge automobiles entering the city center a fee of VND30,000-50,000 (US$1.32-2.20) in an attempt to curb congestion. 

-- Dinh Huu Du, a reporter of the state-run Vietnam News Agency, is still missing after he was swept away by swollen water on Wednesday while reporting on a flood in northern Yen Bai Province. 

- Ho Chi Minh City is looking to auction its public land reserves to get money needed for the development of seven ‘breakthrough programs’ until 2020, which are estimated to set the city back some VND850 trillion ($37.42 billion). 

-- The Song Han terminal at Da Nang Port in central Da Nang City will be turned into a massive parking lot for vehicles attending the upcoming 2017 APEC Senior Week hosted by Da Nang, November 6-11. 

-- An outbreak of diphtheria has been reported in the north-central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam, infecting at least seven people and killing one.

-- A number of car models in Ho Chi Minh City are being discounted by up to VND160 million ($7,000) apiece, a move regarded as car sellers’ effort to free up their inventory for new shipments.

-- Police on Wednesday raided a petroleum retailer in north-central Nghe An Province and found the facility to have been mixing gasoline with powder colorings and a solvent to increase the fuel’s volume for profit.

-- Ho Chi minh City’s Department of Finance has proposed that tourists who stay overnight in the city be charged VND23,000 ($1) per night, which would be used to reinvest in the city’s tourism.
