Broadway musical performances delight commuters at Ho Chi Minh City metro station

Breaking free from the traditional confines of the theater, familiar melodies from some of the world's most celebrated musicals echoed through the station, drawing the attention of hundreds of passengers.

People of all ages and professions paused their journeys to watch the Broadway musical performances, rewarding the artists with enthusiastic applause as they were swept up in the lively atmosphere.

Iconic Broadway songs included Circle of Life from The Lion King, Think of Me from The Phantom of the Opera, Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid, This Is Me from The Greatest Showman, and We Dance from Once on This Island.

Each performance offered its own distinct style and emotional tone, taking spectators on a musical journey while introducing the appeal of musical theater to a broader audience.

A representative of Impact Theatre Saigon said that the performances at the metro were aimed at bringing musical theater to people who may never have set foot inside a theater.

The event was organized at the metro with the backing of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company, creating new cultural experiences for metro passengers.

The group is scheduled to stage the Broadway musical ‘Once on This Island’ at the C30 Hoa Binh Theater at 141 Bac Hai Street in Dien Hong Ward from August 14 to 16.

Once On This Island, named the winner of the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, tells the story of Ti Moune, a poor village girl who falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy young aristocrat.

Her journey challenges class prejudice, fate and the influence of the island's gods.

The musical has been produced in more than 60 countries worldwide.

Impact Theatre Saigon also plans to develop original musicals that celebrate Vietnamese culture and stories.
