Traffic police stopped the 29-seat bus on Tuesday along Provincial Road 422.

The driver, identified as N.V.C., born in 1968 and residing in Quang Minh Commune, admitted to drinking a can of beer at his company’s New Year celebration before driving.

Breathalyzer results showed an alcohol concentration of 0.061 mg per liter of breath.

At the time of inspection, the bus was in service but carried no passengers, only the driver and one assistant.

Police seized the bus and the driver’s license.

Under current regulations, he faces a fine of VND7 million (US$270) and a deduction of four points from his 12-point license.

Authorities are also investigating whether the bus was improperly handed over to someone unfit to drive.

According to the Traffic Police Department, under Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, during a nationwide enforcement campaign from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, officers inspected 21,674 vehicles across the country.

Officers recorded 393 alcohol-related violations and temporarily impounded all 393 vehicles.
