Café owner booked after foreign tourist’s phone knocked away by passing train in Hanoi

N.T.D. was dealt with for ‘selling goods within the railway traffic safety corridor.’

The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm on Friday last week in front of houses in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Ward.

A group of four foreign tourists, whose identities and nationalities have not been determined, were standing near the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway line to film a passing train.

While recording the train, one woman sat close to the railway tracks and used her phone to capture footage.

As the train passed, it struck the phone, sending it flying.

No one was injured in the incident, but the phone was damaged.

Because she was not injured, the foreign tourist did not report the incident to police and left the scene on her own.

During a subsequent investigation, traffic police officers worked with police in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Ward to inspect businesses operating in the area.

Based on the findings, ward police issued an administrative violation record against D. for selling goods within the railway traffic safety corridor.

Officers will proactively monitor train schedules, and maintain traffic and urban order in the area, ensuring safety along the railway passing through the area.

Hanoi traffic police have urged businesses in the area not to display goods, tables or chairs within the railway traffic safety corridor.

Residents and tourists have also been warned to never stand, sit, take photographs or film within the railway tracks or the railway safety corridor.
