“I am deeply saddened to hear about the severe damage caused by storm Bualoi in northern and central provinces of Vietnam, which resulted in many deaths, injuries, and significant property losses,” PM Hun Manet wrote.
“On behalf of the Cambodian government and people, I extend my deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the Vietnamese government and people, especially to the families who lost their loved ones.
“I wish the injured a speedy recovery and believe that under your wise leadership, the resilient Vietnamese people will soon overcome this difficult time,” the Cambodian government leader added.
Bualoi, the 10th storm to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year, made landfall early on Monday in north-central Vietnam.
As of Friday morning, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, reported that storm Bualoi and related floods, whirlwinds, and landslides had left 53 people dead, 14 missing, and 164 injured in the northern and central regions.
The storm also destroyed 349 houses, damaged or unroofed more than 174,000 homes, flooded nearly 64,000 others, and affected 1,486 schools.
Crops, livestock, and infrastructure suffered extensive damage, disrupting the lives of thousands.
Initial estimates put total economic losses at around VND16.51 trillion (US$626 million), with Ha Tinh, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Nghe An, and Cao Bang among the hardest-hit provinces.
