CERF allocates $2.6mn for urgent response to flooding in Vietnam

The funding will provide life-saving assistance in shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and food security in Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Da Nang, central Vietnam.

Shelter support will include cash assistance and essential household items for vulnerable households.

WASH interventions will restore access to safe water and sanitation through supplies, cash for repairs, and hygiene promotion in communities, schools, and health facilities.

Food security will be stabilized through multi-purpose cash and cash-for-work for debris clearance and irrigation rehabilitation.

These interventions will complement government-led efforts until additional resources are mobilized.

Sweden has contributed 205 million SEK ($19.5 million) to the CERF in 2025.

Consecutive storms and floods have affected four million people across Vietnam, including 3.1 million in 15 prioritized provinces.

The disasters caused 167 deaths and damaged or flooded 750,000 houses, 863 schools, 184 health facilities, and 230 water systems.

Besides, floods damaged 140,000 hectares of rice, and killed more than 2.6 million livestock and poultry.

Between November 16 and 23 alone, severe flooding affected Dak Lak and Gia Lai Provinces and Da Nang City.

In particular, Dak Lak reported 286 destroyed houses and over 150,000 flooded, affecting 633,000 people, while Gia Lai recorded 2,330 collapsed houses and 20,775 inundated, affecting 295,000 people.

Earlier floods in Da Nang City damaged more than 77,000 homes.

Water systems were disrupted, leaving 1.2 million people without safe water, including 105,000 in these three localities.

Extensive crop and livestock losses have deepened food insecurity and eroded livelihoods.
