Chinese robot vision sensor producer chooses Vietnam as manufacturing hub

The facility, named RVMC Factory, is built in Thuan Thanh Industrial Park and covers an area of more than 100,000 square meters.

Once operational, it will focus on producing Orbbec’s 3D vision sensors and smart hardware products for markets outside China.

RVMC Factory is expected to be completed and begin operations in 2027.

Orbbec develops 3D vision sensors and AI vision products used in sectors such as robotics, 3D scanning, and biometrics.

The company said it currently serves more than 3,000 customers and developers across nearly 100 countries and territories.

According to a report by China's Gaogong Institute of Industrial Robotics, Orbbec holds more than 70 percent of the Chinese market for 3D vision sensors used in service robots. Such robots are designed for everyday tasks and may include humanoid robots.

For the global market, U.S. investment bank Morgan Stanley has projected that the humanoid robot industry could be worth as much as US$7.5 trillion by 2050.

The expected surge in demand for robots is seen as a major growth opportunity for companies such as Orbbec.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam facility is being positioned as a core manufacturing center within Orbbec’s global production network, according to ITBrief Asia.

The company is implementing a phased development strategy in Vietnam that combines short-term manufacturing capacity with long-term infrastructure development to meet growing demand from international customers.

Orbbec said the Vietnam factory will become its second-largest production facility and will support international orders through a localized manufacturing model.

Bac Ninh was selected partly because it is considered one of Vietnam’s leading electronics manufacturing hubs, attracting numerous suppliers and assembly companies serving global markets.

Orbbec expects coordination between its manufacturing facilities in China and Vietnam to create a more flexible production system with stronger scalability.
