Cold front expected to bring rain, cool weather to northern Vietnam

A cold front is forecast to hit northern Vietnam late on Tuesday, bringing rain and cooler temperatures just ahead of the Reunification Day and International Workers' Day holiday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The national weather agency said that the cold air mass is moving southward toward northern Vietnam and will first affect the northeastern region before spreading to the north-central provinces and parts of the northwest and central regions.

From Wednesday, northern provinces will see cooler weather, with temperatures dropping to 20-23 degrees Celsius, and below 20 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas. North-central provinces will experience lows of 21-24 degrees Celsius.

In Hanoi, showers and thunderstorms are expected from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, with localized heavy rain. Temperatures will fall to 22-24 degrees Celsius.

Holiday weather outlook

Forecasts for the holiday break from April 30 to May 3 indicate varied weather conditions across Vietnam.

In northern Vietnam, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas, while daytime conditions are likely to be sunny. By Sunday, parts of the northwest region may experience localized heat.

In central provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa to Hue, scattered rain and showers are expected on Thursday, particularly in southern areas. Sunny weather is forecast from Friday onward, with localized heat possible by Sunday. Evening and nighttime showers and thunderstorms may occur in some locations.

In coastal areas of south-central Vietnam, scattered rain and showers are forecast on Thursday, especially in northern parts. Sunny weather is expected from Friday, with localized heat possible on Sunday.

The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are anticipated to experience sunny weather, with localized heat in some areas. Southern Vietnam may see hot conditions on Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely during the evening and night.

In Hanoi, sunny days and dry nights are forecast during the holiday period.
