The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the cold air mass is moving southward and will affect the northern region starting late Monday.

From Monday evening through Tuesday, northern and north-central provinces are anticipated to see scattered rain and thunderstorms.

By Tuesday, nighttime and early morning temperatures in the northern region and the north-central province of Thanh Hoa will drop to between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas falling below 14 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi will see scattered showers from Monday to Tuesday, with temperatures dipping to 16-18 degrees Celsius at night and in the early morning.

Central Vietnam will also be affected.

The central provinces from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will experience rain and thunderstorms beginning Tuesday, while the Central Highlands and southern provinces may see unseasonal showers.

The national weather agency also warned of possible thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and strong gusts.

In the East Vietnam Sea, conditions will worsen as winds strengthen.

In the Gulf of Tonkin, northeast winds will reach 39-49 kph, with gusts up to 61 kph, generating waves between 1.5 and 2.5 meters.

The northern East Vietnam Sea, including Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Special Zone, will see waves as high as four meters.

The agency added that cold fronts will possibly continue through March, with the strongest effects in the first half of the month.

Light rain, drizzle, and fog will persist in northeastern provinces and north-central regions, while damp conditions may cause discomfort.

Meanwhile, hot weather is forecast to continue in southeastern provinces, potentially spreading to the Mekong Delta by late March.
