Commune official in Lam Dong arrested for allegedly embezzling $19,000

The Lam Dong People’s Procuracy confirmed on Saturday that it had coordinated with provincial police to arrest Uc Kim Khoan, an official of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee chapter in Phan Son Commune, on suspicion of embezzlement.

Authorities also conducted a search of his residence to collect evidence related to the case.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Khoan, exploiting his role in directing and coordinating aid disbursements, unlawfully transferred VND500 million (approximately $19,000) from the chapter’s funds into his personal account.

Following the discovery of the misconduct, the chapter suspended him from his duties and demanded that he immediately repay the embezzled funds.

The agency also reported the case to higher authorities for legal action.

During questioning, Khoan admitted that he had used the money to repay debts, invest in cryptocurrency, and cover personal expenses, according to Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
