Da Nang installs over 1,800 eco-friendly BTS poles

These innovative designs now account for more than 66 percent of the city’s BTS infrastructure, making Da Nang a national pioneer in eco-friendly urban telecommunications.

The municipal Department of Science and Technology said on Monday that a total of 1,856 BTS units featuring compact antenna masts, typically under three meters in height, had been deployed.

These stations were designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape and urban architecture.

To avoid visual clutter and improve urban aesthetics, the BTS stations have been cleverly disguised.

In high-rise buildings, they take the form of water tanks or AC cabinets.

Meanwhile, at residential areas, tourist sites, and resorts, BTS structures have been made to resemble light poles or trees.

Since 2018, to expand network coverage in tourist areas, public spaces, and parks, Da Nang has worked with telecom operators to install base transceiver stations camouflaged as light posts and trees, said Le Son Phong, deputy director of the department.

Along the coastal road and the route to Son Tra Peninsula, 22 stations have been installed in the form of street lights.

Recently, operators have begun deploying coconut tree-shaped stations in Hoa Xuan and Cam Le Districts, and in several resorts citywide.

Phong noted that Da Nang was an early adopter of these modern, space-efficient BTS designs, moving away from traditional, bulky towers that detracted from the city's visual appeal.
