A delegation of officials from Da Nang City in central Vietnam is visiting Germany to explore ties in semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence (AI), Nguyen Thanh Hong, director of the city’s Department of Science and Technology, said on Thursday.

The group is led by Nguyen Duc Dung, chairman of the Da Nang People's Council, and Tran Nam Hung, vice-chairman of the municipal People's Committee.

During their visit to Chemnitz City, they met with representatives at the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS and the Technology Center Chemnitz to exchange information and explore collaboration opportunities.

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS, Benjamin Schreiber, a representative of the institute, welcomed the delegation and introduced the institute's mission.

As part of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft network, Europe's largest applied research organization, the institute specializes in ultra-small electronic systems, smart sensors, 3D packaging, flexible electronics, and technologies used in Industry 4.0, healthcare, and autonomous transportation.

It is currently expanding partnerships throughout Asia and Southeast Asia.

Nguyen Duc Dung said that Da Nang is working to become a center for international cooperation in key technologies such as AI, digital twins, cloud computing, quantum systems, big data, blockchain, next-generation mobile networks, robotics, and automation.

He invited Professor Dr. Harald Kuhn, director of the Fraunhofer Institute, to visit Da Nang again to build on earlier discussions.

At the Technology Center Chemnitz, managing director Jens Weber outlined the center's role in supporting startups and emerging businesses.

The center partners with the Fraunhofer Institute to offer funding and infrastructure assistance to new ventures.

The visit concluded with a tour of the institute's facilities, including clean laboratories used for testing and assembling microchip products.
