The campaign was launched under Official Dispatch No. 38 issued by the prime minister on May 5, focusing on intensified inspections and stricter enforcement against counterfeit goods and violations of intellectual property rights.
Since May 7, market surveillance forces in the coastal city have conducted 126 inspections and administratively sanctioned 83 cases.
Authorities imposed more than VND1.1 billion (US$41,780) in fines, while the total value of violating goods exceeded VND706 million ($26,800).
Among them, confiscated goods were valued at over VND49.3 million ($1,870), while products subject to destruction were worth more than VND657.5 million ($24,960).
Several serious cases have been transferred to police agencies for criminal investigation and possible prosecution.
According to the department, intellectual property violations and counterfeit goods accounted for the majority of detected offenses, with 51 cases handled.
Those cases alone resulted in nearly VND800 million ($30,370) in fines and the infringing goods ordered to be destroyed were valued at over VND595.4 million ($22,600).
Authorities also uncovered two cases involving smuggled goods and handled three cases related to products of unclear origin, imposing fines totaling VND38 million ($1,440).
Since the beginning of this year, Da Nang authorities have carried out 678 inspections and handled 495 violations, collecting more than VND6.7 billion ($254,300) in administrative penalties.
Local officials said these figures place Da Nang second nationwide in the intensity and effectiveness of crackdowns on counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations.
In related news, the Da Nang administration last Thursday established a special task force to strengthen enforcement efforts against intellectual property infringement across the city.
Nguyen Manh Hung, chairman of the municipal administration, asked agencies to continue implementing strong measures against counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations while also increasing public awareness about intellectual property protection.
He assigned the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Industry and Trade to intensify enforcement and publicly disclose handling results through the city’s official channels and media outlets.
Relevant agencies and commune-level authorities were also instructed to strengthen coordination, share information, and promptly detect and address violations.
