The department announced the suspension on Wednesday, citing forecasts that Kalmaegi, the 13th storm to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year, could bring torrential rain and widespread inundation.
All preschools, elementary and middle schools, and other education centers are required to halt classes to ensure student safety.
Vocational training institutions, universities, and private colleges may independently decide on class cancelations based on local conditions.
Schools were told to promptly inform parents about the suspension and assign staff to supervise children, especially in preschools and boarding schools.
The department urged all education units to implement emergency preparedness measures, with a focus on protecting students, teachers, staff, facilities, and educational materials.
Administrators must reinforce classrooms, trees, signs, roofs, and electrical equipment, while ensuring boarding and semi-boarding students are properly managed.
Cooking activities in semi-boarding schools are suspended to prevent food spoilage in case of power outages or prolonged rain.
For schools with boarding students, principals must assign staff to remain on-site to guarantee safety under all circumstances.
After the storm, schools are instructed to mobilize resources to repair damage, clean campuses, disinfect facilities, and prevent disease outbreaks so classes can resume quickly.
