By integrating its high-quality healthcare infrastructure with existing tourism appeal, Da Nang is rolling out a strategic plan to develop medical tourism, aiming to boost revenue, attract international visitors, and establish a distinctive local brand.

Leveraging its skilled medical workforce and well-developed infrastructure, Da Nang is setting its sights on becoming Vietnam’s leading center for medical tourism.

From now through 2030, the city will gradually introduce 15 medical service packages that combine healthcare with leisure activities, while simultaneously improving service quality to meet international standards.

At the seminar titled 'Developing Da Nang’s Medical Tourism' held on Tuesday by the city’s Department of Health and Department of Tourism, municipal leaders reiterated their commitment to making medical tourism a flagship offering in the near future.

Tran Chi Cuong, vice-chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, emphasized, “The city’s traditional tourism services have nearly reached their saturation point. Introducing high value-added offerings like medical tourism is not just timely -- it’s essential.”

Ngo Thi Kim Yen, chairwoman of the Da Nang Medical Association, noted, “With our strong foundations in healthcare, highly qualified medical professionals, and convenient transport systems, Da Nang is fully equipped to become Vietnam’s premier medical tourism hub.”

The city is currently prioritizing medical specialties that match tourist demand and typical stay durations, including infertility treatment, rehabilitation, traditional medicine, and cancer screening.

The development plan follows a clear roadmap: by the end of 2026, at least five service packages will be in place; this number will increase to ten by the second quarter of 2028 and reach 15 by 2030.

Additionally, all tourist areas and resorts will be integrated with the city’s healthcare network.

To enhance service quality, Da Nang is prioritizing workforce training, aiming for at least five percent of healthcare staff each year to improve their foreign language skills, communication abilities, and problem-solving capabilities tailored to the needs of international visitors.

The city is also developing a multilingual digital platform for booking medical appointments, which will be integrated into its existing smart tourism apps.
