A 35-year-old delivery man in Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam was struck by lightning while riding home from work on Friday afternoon, leaving him in a coma with a brain hemorrhage, local authorities confirmed the same day.

The Quang Tri General Hospital said on Friday evening that it was treating P.A.T., a resident of Trieu Dai Commune, Trieu Phong District, for injuries caused by a lightning strike.

The patient was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, unconscious and suffering from a brain bleed.

He is currently on a ventilator.

Vo Sinh, chairman of the Trieu Long Commune People’s Committee, said that the incident occurred around 4:00 pm while T. was riding his motorbike along National Highway 49C, heading home after completing a delivery.

He was struck by lightning and collapsed on the roadside.

At the time of the incident, the area was experiencing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

In recent days, Quang Tri has seen extreme weather patterns, with hot daytime temperatures followed by evening storms that include lightning, whirlwinds, hail, and strong gusts.

Despite repeated weather alerts issued by local meteorological agencies, many residents continue to travel during lightning storms.
