Police in the province’s Ba Tri Commune said on Saturday that they had assisted Nguyen Thi Minh Chau, 70, a local resident, in completing the required procedures at an Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) transaction office in Ba Tri to return the mistakenly transferred funds in accordance with the law.
Earlier, on January 31, Chau’s bank account unexpectedly received four separate transfers from an unfamiliar account, totaling nearly VND2 billion, or about $77,400.
Realizing that the large sum was unrelated to any of her personal transactions, she immediately reported the matter to the commune police and sought guidance on how to handle it properly.
After receiving the report, police officers worked with Chau to explain the relevant legal provisions and responsibilities related to mistakenly transferred funds, helping her avoid potential legal consequences.
The commune police then coordinated with the ACB transaction office to conduct verification and reconciliation procedures in line with banking regulations.
With close cooperation between the police and the bank, the full amount was returned to the original sender through proper procedures, ensuring safety and compliance with the law.
Local police leaders said Chau’s prompt reporting and voluntary return of the money reflected her honesty and respect for the law, helping promote positive values within the community.
