Employee of cruise ship in Vietnam’s Hai Phong accused of raping British tourist

A 19-year-old British female tourist on Sunday accused a Vietnamese male staff member of a cruise ship of raping her during her night stay on the yacht in Lan Ha Bay off Cat Hai District of northern Hai Phong City.

The British traveler named Cerys Ann reported the case to Cat Hai police officers on Sunday.

She said she was staying on the five-star Era cruise ship docked at the Quai To area in Lan Ha Bay on Saturday night when the male employee, named Pham Van Hai, a 34-year-old resident of Dong Trieu Town, Quang Ninh Province, a neighbor of Hai Phong City, raped her.

While working with police officers, Hai pleaded guilty, saying that he had drunk alcohol earlier, so he failed to control his acts.

The Cat Hai District People’s Committee later asked the district police to coordinate with other relevant agencies to deal with the case in line with the law.
