Falling tree branch kills man, injures his wife in Ho Chi Minh City

The Cho Quan Ward administration said Friday evening that local authorities were working with specialized units under the Ho Chi Minh City police to cordon off and examine the scene and investigate the cause of the incident.

At around 6:25 pm the same day, a large branch from a roadside tree on An Duong Vuong Street in Cho Quan Ward suddenly broke off and fell onto the road.

The branch hit a passing bus before bouncing onto the road and striking the couple on the motorbike.

The impact knocked both of them off the motorbike. The husband sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died.

His wife was also injured and taken to An Binh Hospital for treatment.

The deceased was identified as L.V.D., 59, a resident of Ninh Binh Province, northern Vietnam. He was carrying his wife, D.T.T., 57, when the incident occurred.

After receiving reports of the incident, local authorities arrived at the scene to clear the fallen tree and facilitate traffic.

According to the Cho Quan Ward administration, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds occurred at the time of the incident.

Afterward, ward officials visited the injured woman at An Binh Hospital, offering encouragement and condolences to the victim's family.

The ward administration said it would coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City Green Park Company Limited to inspect trees in the area and develop a pruning plan to ensure road safety.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
